The leaves are so beautiful. The nasty weekend with hail and assorted wonderful stuff (yeah--right!) Yes, I'm being sarcastic. Yes we did pick the pumpkins early, the town decided to re-dig the trenches on our road and from what I hear we were lucky and they moved our onto/up to our fence. The vines broke when they moved them, but this crew didn't hurt the pumpkins themselves. Other crews just dragged the ditches, if the vines grew down, too bad for you. I could understand if this was a big busy place, but I don't even think we have a stop light in town, a few blinkers, but not a complete STOP here light. The other vines started drying off even without a frost so we took them. We also are way down on egg production, we just checked things out to get their winter light in and on! We are also going to try to put them all together again. Last time it was not a pretty sight. But with winter coming, it would be better for them to be together for warmth. Our meat turkeys are getting bigger. We had a tough time with them this year, our first order through one of the local feed stores went down! The whole order just didn't make it. In a way I was really glad we didn't even get them home because if they had something they could of given it to all our feathered flock. They of course re-ordered them asap but it took another 3 weeks for them to get here, it doesn't sound like much, but for these guys it is.
We were able to get a
pair of Bourbon Reds and Blue Slates. What we want to do is try to
hatch their eggs, sell them then buy the meat turkeys with that money.
The BBR's and BS run about $7.00 a piece. The meat ones about $3.00.
If they don't sell, we'll still have fresh turkey for ourselves and
were thinking about entering them and selling them at the local fairs
(extras). Hey it just might work.
As I write this and look out the window, it's snowing!!!!! WELCOME WINTER!!!
This will look pretty
silly all over the scarecrows and Halloween decorations we have out
there. Thank goodness we put our little herb garden "to
bed" for the winter.
