Michigan

Beautiful Photos, enjoy some awesome shots of features around Michigan. My thanks to Becky for sharing these with everyone.

Horseshoe Bay Cave, I enjoyed reading this adventure report and seeing the photos so much. I'd almost given up finding any caves at all with description and pictures and was so glad someone went to the trouble to write about their trip.

Grand Island Ice Caves - they sell CD photos of the adventure and will rent you a sled.

Iron Mountain Bat Mine & Vista, when is a cave not a cave and when is a mine not a mine... This is very interesting with some great photos. It makes reference to bat houses not always being made practical for the bat and a link to visit the batcon . org site. But I looked and could find no details. Most of our area lost the bats when fields were sprayed to make the grass grow better for the cattle. Killed the bugs and unwanted plants. For so many years we have been invaded by mosquitoes, gnats and other little bugs, and of course the grasshoppers.

"Lake Superior, Alger Underwater Preserve has several unique diving attractions including underwater caves, complete shipwrecks, and underwater interpretive trails.  The caves are really parts of sandstone cliffs where waves have eroded the sandstone. The caves are usually only 20 feet deep, though they offer great shallow water diving." Find mostly text and brief descriptions. No photos of caves or underwater diving attractions. But it was interesting and has caves.

About Caves, Information and some photos.

Waterfalls, many waterfalls with lots of photos, Danny Burk photos of waterfalls

Rivers, the Wikipedia page- many are small streams and there are no pictures or much of a description at all. All about those Michigan lakes and the Wikipedia page for more lakes.

Arch Rock of Michigan is seen by millions of tourists visiting the resort Mackinac Island, in the straits where Lake Michigan flows into Lake Huron. It has a span of 50 feet. Caribou Arch is a natural bridge with a span of about 15 feet and is located on the southeast shoreline of West Caribou Island in Isle Royale National Park in Lake Superior. Approximate coordinates for the arch are 48°05'47"N latitude and 88°33'44"W longitude on the Mott Island quadrangle, Michigan.

Bridges, DoT website and the Covered Bridges; Wikipedia Bridges page... and look below the bridges in Michigan category title and find the list of bridges on the National Register of Historic Places. There are not a lot of photos but if you want to see what a swing bridge is, click on Wayne County Bridge and where it says, "swing bridge" click on the words and it will take you to a page where they have a drawing and description.
