Montana Legends, this site has loads of history and photos, new and old. Even some ghosts and ghost towns. It's difficult not to spend hours just looking. |
Caves of Montana, this is page 2 but still gives you the long list of caves known. They don't all have descriptions and photos but it's still fascinating. The first one is Virgil the Turtle's Great House Cave (also called Tears of the Turtle). It's 1,586 feet deep and more than a mile long. Not a show cave. |
The Belt Meteor Crater But the crater was not made by a meteor. Incredible. Scroll down the page to see the Monarch Sink. |
Lick Creek Cave, this was a tour from back in 2005. It is dark with only the lights they brought with them. No easy pathways. To get to the entrance, one has to hike 3/4 mile and climb 600 feet in elevation. Lots of history and cave geology. Monarch Canyon with lots of the same history and geology. |
Pictograph Cave State Park, Pictograph (or Inscription) Cave, Middle Cave and Ghost Cave. Lots of information and photos. State Park website has maps and a little more history and information. Montana Traveler, lots of history (and ads) but interesting. |
