Crystal Lake Cave Find two pages of images, lots of interesting history. This page CLICK HERE has a lot of history some images and part of the history tells how the "lake" is only seen by looking through a hole in the wall. Don't know why they would not expand the cave to include the lake. I think it is a matter of preserving what is already there. A Blog with a photo worth seeing. Just a tiny glimpse through that hole in the wall.

Glacial Boulders in Iowa This is About . com and may well disappear at any time but it has some very interesting information. Fossils of Iowa, about 375 million years old.

Maquoketa Caves State Park This page has lots of history and one photo. It's not possible to tell what the photo shows and there is no title to tell us. I did find the following: The park contains less than half a mile of surfaced road. Visitors reach the caves by foot on well marked and sometimes rugged trails. In the center of the 272-acre park is a steep ravine with sheer cliffs ranging from 10 to 75 feet high. Trails lead around the top of the cliffs to overlooks. There are 16 small caves to explore, and none ... have lighting. The Wikipedia page says that the photo above was an above ground formation and called a natural bridge. Find the names of caves while the many small ones are not named. State Parks page but all the text is the same as those above. There are 2 photos. It says gallery but there are only 2 items. Spook Cave and Campground This cave is not accessible by foot, only by boat. But there are some photos of the cavern as well as the campground. This is an underground river which feeds Bloody Run Creek. Roadside America has a few notes on Spook Cave and the Field of Dreams in Dyersville, Iowa. Wikipedia page.

Starr's Cave Park and Preserve There is an About the park but no history and no photos... Stranded in Iowa, so they went to Starr's Cave  Starr's Cave new bridge with a few shots of the entrance. Starr's Cave and Snake Alley This little bit of info has one photo inside the cave. But they do mention that they didn't go in since they did not have flashlights. Snake Alley is a long and winding road. There was also a mention about Starr's Cave and how they must protect the bats. There was a note about other caves in the immediate area but no photos and no history or description.

This is the Wikipedia page for Bixby State Preserve but look to the bottom of the page for Protected Areas of Iowa. There are no National Parks in Iowa but there a National Historical Site and a Monument, lots of State Parks and Forests and Historical Landmarks.
